From the Latin  granum , meaning a grain...

Granite
is an intrusive igneous rock that forms at great depths and pressures  under continents.  Due to its strength and durability, it is an important tructural and ornamental stone. It is also the most "maintenance free" of all stones.

Granite
is composed of quartz, feldspars and micas, as well as traces of a wide variety of other minerals. The sizes of the crystals in each granite
are somewhat determined by the rate at which the  granite cools.  They get their wonderful variety of colors and patterns from minerals that are elted into the liquid mass as it is formed.

Granite
is available in many sizes, finishes, as well as slabs.
