The Art of Majolica...

Majolica is a unique form of pottery originated with the moors in Spain and was imported by sea merchants into Italy at the beginning of the 14th century. By the 16th century it had developed into the quintessential ceramic art form of the Renaissance. The methods used today to create majolica are almost the same as they were 500 years ago, except for the kilns that have been modernized and the tableware that meets current standards for use.
